Hoysala Origins
Built during the reign of the Hoysala Empire, the temple showcases the intricate craftsmanship and sculptural finesse characteristic of that era. It bears a striking resemblance to the renowned Chennakesava Temple at Somanathapura.
Submerged by Progress
The construction of the KRS Dam in the early 20th century led to the submergence of the original temple site. For decades, it remained underwater, a hidden treasure glimpsed only during periods of drought.
A Rescued Masterpiece
In the 1990s, due to public demand and the efforts of conservationists, the temple was carefully dismantled and relocated to its current location in Hosa Kannambadi, near the backwaters of the KRS Dam.
